Discerning the Time Post # 5

I hope you’ve read the last four posts concerning the time of Jesus’ return. I also hope you’ve looked up the associated scriptures to verify what I have posted. While the general time frame arrived at is certainly not set in stone, it should alert you to how potentially close we are to end time events. Those four biblical scenarios, though circumstantial, build to a logical and realistic time frame when considered together. The secular dates used, AD30 for the crucifixion, and AD 70 for the destruction of Jerusalem, while not absolutely certain, are probably accurate to within three years. Simply adding 2000 years to AD 30 gives us 2030, + or – 3 years, or a range of 2027 to 2033. This means Daniels’ 70th week of 7 years would have already started in 2020 or will start by 2026. Close indeed ! If, however, the seventieth week is an add on to the 2000 years, the 2nd coming will be 2034 – 2040 with the seventieth week starting between 2027 and 2033. Still quite close !

Since I believe Jesus coming will be at the “last” trumpet, which will introduce the 120th Jubilee (the trump of God which He Himself will blow) and the Kingdom, it must be blown on Yom Kippur the Day of Atonement (Lev. 25:8-11). My favorite bible chronologist has gone so far as to propose a specific date and time with the assumption of AD30 and AD70 as accurate dates. His best proposal : The 120th jubilee, at sundown on Tishri 9, 2036. If this is accurate, Daniels 70th week will start in the autumn of 2029 seven and one half years from now. In all my studies of end-time chronology I cannot dispute his timing. I think that’s the best we can do for now, and update as last days events unfold. Keep watching !

Post # 4 Discerning the Time

The prophet Daniel said two things must happen after the 69 weeks (when Messiah comes) but before the final or 70th week. (Daniel 9:26) The Messiah would be cut off (crucified) and Jerusalem would be destroyed and desolated. Hence the “gap” or desolation of Jerusalem between the 69th and 70th weeks. This gap, then, constitutes the second exile of the Jews from their homeland, the first being the Babylonian exile. The Babylonian exile was for 70 years while the land enjoyed her sabbaths (2 Chron. 36:21). Since the 70th week is yet future, the question is: how long is this current exile to last? If we can determine that, we can determine when the last seven years prior to the coming Kingdom of Christ will start. Leviticus 26 gives us a clue. God, through Moses prophesied the first exile judgment if they would not obey Him (Lev. 26:14-17). This resulted in the first exile of 70 years. He then says in the next verse “And after all this, if you do not obey Me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins.” (Lev 26:18) This would mean 7 x 70 or 490 years. But, God does not stop there. He adds a second “seven times more” in verse 21, a third in verse 24, and a fourth in verse 27. All this also that the land could enjoy her sabbaths (verse 34).

So, what does this add up to ? 7 x 70 + 7 x 70 + 7 x 70 + 7 x 70 =1960 years total. The destruction and desolation of Jerusalem is well established to have occurred in 70 AD. Therefore adding 1960 years to AD70 comes to, you guessed it 2030 ! However, note that under this calculation, the start of Jacob’s trouble (Daniel’s 70th week) begins in 2030. This would place the year of Jesus’ second coming in 2037.

In my next post, I’ll summarize and make some predictions based on the scenarios presented in these last four posts.

Post # 3 Discerning the Time

This post will deal with a very concise and relevant passage in the book of Hosea. “For I will be like a lion to Ephraim, and like a young lion to the house of Judah. I, even I, will tear them and go away; I will take them away, and no one shall rescue. I will return again to my place, till they acknowledge their offense. Then they will seek my face; in their affliction they will earnestly seek Me. Come, and let us return to the Lord; for He has torn, but He will heal us; He has stricken, but He will bind us up. After two days He will revive us; on the third day He will raise us up, that we may live in His sight.” (Hosea 5:14 – 6:2) Many bible commentators say that this refers to the Assyrian destruction of the northern kingdom (Israel) in Hosea’s day, but notice that it concerns Judah as well. It clearly describes a time future to Hosea.

In my analysis, God, through Hosea, is saying this: I’m going to destroy Israel and Judah (Judea and Jerusalem) and I am going away, to my place. Total destruction came upon Jerusalem in 70 AD shortly after Jesus resurrection and ascension to heaven. He went back to His place (at the right hand of the Father). The Jews were carried off as slaves to the nations. There they still remain till they acknowledge their offense and earnestly seek Him. Note that they will do this in their affliction (great tribulation). God will revive them “after two days“. On the third day He will raise (resurrect) them to life in His sight (presence). This , of course will happen on the day of the Lord, when He returns and resurrects all His saints. According to this text, when will this happen ? After two days ! Two days here cannot mean 48 hours. We, again, must use the Lord’s reckoning of a day as a thousand years. The third day represents the seventh millennium , Christ’s kingdom on earth. The resurrection takes place on the first day of the kingdom. So, it follows then, that 2000 years from the crucifixion is Jesus’ coming. With the assumption that the crucifixion took place in 30 AD; 30 + 2000 = 2030.

Indeed, quite a detailed prophecy. More confirmation of the general time period of Jesus second advent put forth in the first two posts. This prophesied 2000 year period is most likely the “gap” between Daniel’s 69th and 70th week. We’ll look at another description of this gap in the next post.

Post # 2 Discerning the Time

This post will introduce you to the Jubilee Calendar, another internal biblical confirmation of a 6000 year period preceding the millennium. In Genesis 6:3 Moses records “And the Lord said, ‘My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years’.” Bible expositors typically connect this verse with God limiting man’s lifespan, or the time span to the flood. Neither suffice, however, as man’s life expectancy never settled on 120 years, and God’s statement was given between Noah’s 500th and 600th year, short of 120. What, then, was God stating ? The word “man” in this verse is Adam in Hebrew which means “mankind”- all the human race in general. It is clear, then, that the period of time God is referring to is the span of time He continues to “strive ” (contend) with mankind. He was striving with man in Noah’s day and continues to strive with man to the present. And, He will continue to contend with mankind until His Son sets up His Kingdom. To understand what time period God is referring to, we need to look at the standard for timekeeping given to Moses and the Israelites. In Leviticus 25 God commanded Israel to farm their land for 6 years, then rest on the seventh (sabbath year) and repeat this for seven cycles. After seven cycles (49 years) they were to celebrate an additional sabbath, a 50th year, or as He called it, a Jubilee year. This Jubilee year was the longest time cycle (50 years) commanded by God to be kept. Knowing that, let’s assume that back in Genesis God was speaking of His future Jubilee cycle when he spoke of 120 years. If that was the case, the 120 x 50 equals 6000 years ! Fits perfectly ! In fact, it fits so perfectly that use of this chronology results in: Noah’s death and Abraham’s birth in the 2000th year (40th jubilee year), the exodus on the 50th (jubilee of jubilees), Cyrus’ decree to release the Jews on the 70th(beginning of Daniels’70 weeks prophecy), along with other “coincidences”.

Use of this Jubilee calendar fits well with the millennial Sabbath theory described in the last post. This chronology allows for a 2000 year period from Christ’s resurrection till the 120th Jubilee (2030 AD?). As the jubilee year was to be announced by the blowing of the trumpet (Lev. 25:9), the final trumpet of the cycle, I believe the trumpet blast starting the 120th Jubilee will be the “last trumpet” spoken of by Jesus and the apostle Paul declaring the start of the Jesus’ Kingdom here on earth. In the next post, I’ll discuss a prophecy in Hosea that will add credence to the first two posts.

Post # 1 Discerning the Time

The first eschatological framework concerning the timing of Jesus’ 2nd advent I’m going to briefly discuss is called the “Millennial Sabbath“. Simply stated it is the idea that the period from creation to the eternal state is a span of seven thousand years, with the last one thousand years constituting Christ’s Kingdom here on the earth. The most reliable Bible chronologists (IMO) agree, noting creation to Abraham as 2000 years, Abraham to Christ’s crucifixion as 2000 years, the crucifixion to Christs return another 2000 years, followed by a Kingdom reign of 1000 years, a seventh or sabbath millennium. It is beyond the scope of this article to detail this chronology, but I will provide links to the internal Bible documentation upon request. This millennial sabbath is based on the statements in psalms and Peter that a day with the Lord is as a thousand years. This is confirmed in Genesis where Adam was warned that he would die in the “day” he ate of the forbidden fruit. Obviously, he didn’t die in that 24 hour day, but returned to dust just prior to 1000 years of life. It’s also based on Paul’s writing in Hebrews chapter 4 about entering God’s rest which is compared to God’s seventh day of creation where He rested. Paul states that there remains a sabbatical (rest) for god’s people where they will cease from their works. This rest is equated to Christ’s coming Kingdom in 2 Thess. 1:5. Revelation states clearly that His Kingdom is for 1000 years. If the seventh “day” rest is 1000 years in length, it follows that the first six were also 1000 years in duration. Early church Fathers had a near consensus on this issue. I’ll give you one quote from Hippolytus: “And six thousand years must needs be accomplished in order that the Sabbath may come, the rest, the holy day on which God rested from all His works. For the sabbath is the type and emblem of the future kingdom of the saints, when they shall reign with Christ, when He comes from heaven, as John says in his Apocalypse. ‘For a day with the Lord is as a thousand years.’ Since, then, in six days God made all things, it follows that six thousand years must be fulfilled.”

Based on the above, we can simply add 2000 years to the year of Jesus’ crucifixion to find the year of Jesus’ coming. It’s commonly believed that Jesus died between AD 27 and AD 33 with a probable date of AD 30. This would mean Jesus is returning in 2030. However, while the AD 30 date is reasonable, it is not certain. There is also the caveat that Daniels 70th week might be an add-on, which would make it seven years later. Nonetheless, it should be sobering to note that 2030 is less than nine years from now. In Post # 2 I’ll discuss the Jubilee calendar that results in a similar chronology.

Discerning the Time

I’m devoting the next several posts to scriptures that point to the specific time of Jesus’ return. Taken together, I think they’ll alert you to the nearness of the approaching end-times. I’ll number each of the posts so you can easily refer to them. Keep in mind, when discussing these end-time issues, they are not talking about the end of the world, but the end of human government, and the beginning of the 1000 year Kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ when He will rule the world. As a reminder, if you click on “comment” near any post, you can sign up to receive notifications of new posts. Also, you can post a link to various social media platforms. This can help to spread these timely messages. I’ll be posting number one shortly.

Amillennialism

Amillennialism represents the theology that there is no 1000 year reign of Christ in the flesh here on the earth as indicated in Revelation chapter 20. The prefix “A”(pronounced ah) means “no” and millennium means 1000. Hence, no millennium. Amillennialism theology believes that the Kingdom of God is a present day reality with Christ ruling from heaven. This view is wide spread throughout Christianity including Eastern Orthodox, Roman Catholic, and many Protestant denominations. It has its roots in the teachings of men like Augustine, Calvin, Luther, and others. But, is it Scriptural ? It is a much disputed theology amongst Christians, many who believe in a literal reign of Christ here on earth, from a restored world capital of Jerusalem for 1000 years based on a literal understanding of Rev.20. Here’s what Rev. says about the period immediately following the great tribulation and Jesus’ second coming:

He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the devil and satan, and bound him for a thousand years; and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years are finished……Then I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus…….they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years. Now when the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from his prison.….” (Revelation 20:2-7)

A simple basic hermeneutic (principal of scripture interpretation) states the following: If there is no inherent symbolism or reason to interpret metaphorically, the passage is to be interpreted as literal. Amillennialists interpret these passages as symbolic, without a clear textual basis. I personally follow a simple rule of scripture interpretation; The default hermeneutic is literal. This is the only objective approach. The subjective approach as demonstrated by amillennialism can be applied at whim. In the above scripture, a thousand means a thousand, with no supplied reason for any symbolism.

Make no mistake, Jesus will be returning shortly as a glorified man and will set up His Kingdom based out of Zion (Jerusalem) from where He will rule the world for a 1000 (millennial) year period assisted by His people (believers) who will rule and reign with Him. After the 1000 years comes satan’s release and final defeat and the “great white throne judgment” when all the rest of mankind will be judged. Concluding; “Now when all things are made subject to Him, then the Son Himself will also be subject to Him who put all things under Him, that God may be all in all.” (1 Corinthians 15:28)

The “When” of the Resurrection of the Righteous

There is much discussion these days of just when is the “rapture” (resurrection of the righteous) in relation to other eschatological events. Evangelicals in particular, argue whether it will occur prior to Daniel’s 70th week (pre-trib), three and one half years into the week (mid-trib), somewhere during the final half of the week (pre-wrath), after the seven years are completed (post-trib), or some other nuanced timing. I think the bible is quite clear that Jesus will resurrect His church immediately following the 70th week – a post-trib event. Fortunately for us, the bible has several clear “when” verses so there need not be any doubt. Following is a list of these verses:

  1. John 6:39-44, 11:24 Jesus will raise believers on the “last” day of this age. Last means last. The Greek word is eschatos which translated is farthest, final, or uttermost. The “When” here is clear.
  2. 1st Cor. 15:52 When ? At the Last trumpet. Again, last here is eschatos. I believe this to be the trumpet of the 120th jubilee year from the fall. (Lev. 25:9)
  3. 2nd Thess. 1:3-10 Saints are not given “rest” until (when) Jesus comes in judgment on the day of the Lord. See also Hebrews 4:1-8
  4. 2nd Thess. 2: 1-4 Our gathering together unto Him cannot occur until great apostacy happens and the antichrist is revealed declaring himself to be god on the temple mount. The “when” here is the day of the Lord when we are gathered to Him.
  5. 1st Cor. 15:23 The resurrection of Christians is when? At His coming (gr. parousia). Christs parousia is His glorious visible coming.
  6. Mat. 24:29-31 Jesus had just spoken of “great tribulation”- the final three and one half years of Daniels seventieth week. He then stated when His coming would be when He would gather all His elect; “immediately after the tribulation of those days“. It doesn’t get any more precise then that!
  7. Mat. 24:13 After Jesus tells His apostles all the signs of His second coming, He tells them that those who endure to the “end” will be saved. Here, end means- uttermost, final. The when is also quite clear in this passage – after all these things take place.
  8. Rev. 20:4-6 The martyrs of the tribulation are raised in the first resurrection. When is the first resurrection? At the beginning on Christs millennial reign.

Next in Prophecy

There are a few prophetic things that must happen before the commencement of Daniel’s seventieth week. Among them are the ram – goat war of Daniel chapter 8 and the formation of the 10 nation confederacy that will support the coming antichrist. This 10 nation alliance will, I believe, be all Islamic. This is ably presented in the books “Islamic Antichrist” and “Mideast Beast”. These are must reads for students of biblical prophecy and are available for free here:Islamic-Antichrist.pdf (joelstrumpet.com) and here:Master File Joel Richardson (joelstrumpet.com).

The ram – goat war of Daniel 8, I believe, will be between Yavan (modern-day Turkey) and Iran (biblical Persia). For a detailed exegesis of this chapter go to Los Amigos Bible Studies link on the lower right and locate chapter 8 of the study on the book of Daniel.

While our nation has been focused on politics lately, there has been news of some subtle moves in the middle east that indicate the ram – goat war may be coming soon. Following are links to two articles that describe what I’m referring to. Erdogan reaches out to Israel – but new allies will influence Jerusalem’s response – Israel News – Haaretz.com also, Iran Press: Erdoğan Undermining Iran’s Territorial Integrity | MEMRI. What’s significant about these articles is Erdogan’s sudden interest in improving ties with both Israel and the Sunni Arab nations that have one after another been signing peace deals with Israel. Turkey, under Erdogan, is also Sunni. He seems to be moving against alienating himself from these Arab nations. These moves, of course, are directly in opposition to the motives of the Shia Islamic regime in Iran who Erdogan has been cozy with recently. The common enemy of most middle east Arab Sunni countries and Israel is Iran. So, Erdogan seems to be incurring the wrath of Iran by these overtures. All it will take is some political or religious catalyst to set off a Sunni – Shia war between Turkey and Iran. Antagonistic political and religious issues are certainly already present between the two. Consider, for a moment, what the world’s reaction would be to such a war. Would there be any intervention from any ME country, Israel, the US, Europe ? I doubt it, especially if Turkey was winning as the bible predicts. The world would probably welcome the demise of the rogue Iranian regime. The US and NATO would possibly even assist Turkey – a NATO alliance member. Remember, from Daniel 8, after Persia is vanquished by Yavan, The “little horn” (antichrist) emerges from the political turmoil after Yavan’s leadership breaks up. Also, it’s not too hard to see a ten nation confederacy of Islamic nations emerge in the aftermath of this war with a revived Ottoman empire based in Turkey at the helm.

You might ask, Jim, are you certain this is coming ? My answer is no; after all this is prophecy. But I present this to you as a reasonable scenario. Keep watching and studying your bible. We live in fascinating times.

God of This Age

Back in roughly 27AD, the known world was dominated politically, economically, militarily, and religiously, by primarily vast, far-reaching empires. The euro-middle east-Asia minor part of the world, of course, was controlled by the Roman oligarchy. Enter into that picture, a young Jewish Messiah figure named Jesus whose teaching and mere presence upset the “deep state” agenda that sought ever more broad control of the masses. The spiritual component behind this deep state was the real force driving them. The bible calls this force Satan or the God of this age. “…..whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.” (2 Cor. 4:4). This god of the worlds systems, recognizing the threat to his agenda, fought tooth and nail to limit the influence of this Jesus. He succeeded in a short 3 year period by convincing the deep state to eliminate Him by crucifixion on a cross. We now know how unsuccessful he actually was because the real God of this universe was using him to execute his hidden plan.

Fast forward to today. The god of this age (2021AD) is one and the same. His goal is the same- to motivate world wide deep state operatives to establish centralized world-wide control of the masses, politically, economically, militarily, and spiritually. (Think great reset). In this way, he can insure his god-like control of human kind in opposition to the real God and Father of our Lord Jesus. He will battle furiously with any entity or individual that gets in the way of his goals. A prime example demonstrating this was the 4 year term of US President Donald Trump. He stood virtually alone among world leaders in promoting biblical Israel, religious freedom, right to life for the unborn, individual authority of nation states, fair trade, all the while exposing the evils of rogue regimes threatening humankind. If you’re following the news lately, it seems Satan was successful in turning the entire world and the US deep state in a concerted attack on Trump’s presidency. But, take heart and keep watching, as just like in AD30, he will ultimately fail as God is again using him to carry out his end- time plan. That plan is clearly laid out in our bibles. Keep reading and studying so that you can recognize when world events begin to line up with God’s eschatology. We are coming up quickly to the end of the sixth millennium since creation. the seventh millennium will be the 1000 year reign of Christ’s kingdom. I can’t wait for the government of this world to be in His hands, and the god of this age to be thrown into the lake of fire.
